Significance of Retirement Planning

By Darek Smith

When I was 23 I met one of the vice presidents of the largest bank in Canada. I worked as a reporter and we met for an interview. After introductions he asked me how old I was. Then he suggested that I should be saving up for my retirement. At the time I was perplexed but after a few years I realized how wise of a suggestion that was.

Saving even if it is a bit at a time is the best way to make sure that down the line you will have enough to retire on. Even $10 per month can make a difference in 20 years so the amount doesn't have to be a big one. Setting money aside is one thing however, having that money grow is another thing.

When it comes to investing for your retirement you should opt in to investments that are secure. These investments won't necessarily have the highest return but they will be secure. The stock market should be avoided as well as other high risk investments. It is vital to plan for your post-retirement life if you wish to retain your financial independence and maintain a comfortable standard of living even when you are no longer earning.

Finding someone who knows his way around investments to help you with your planning is always a great idea. Professionals like investment advisers or financial planners have the know-how and experience to help you make the right choices for investing for your future.

What you invest in should be something secure. Your savings will be essential for your survival in the future. You have worked hard to save the money and you must make the right decisions when investing it. The recent financial crisis has made the potential risks even more apparent.

For best results start saving and investing as early as possible. The more you save and invest the better chances you have of living a comfortable life in the future. The best way to do so is to consult a financial planner or an investment adviser to help you with making the right choices in planning for your retirement. - 23196

Forex Trading Tips - Do You Understand The Fundamentals?

By Mark Green

I view fundamentals as a technique of qualitative analysis of economic situations and events that affect a countries currency, it is not easy to master by any means; it deals with a lot of underlying effects and consequences of decisions from the central bank, government and political news, major bank policy changes, major economic events, and world trade news and how this information from different sources may change money market decisions in the forex.

For the beginning trader who would, and rightfully so, just want to plunge into the forex market ready to trade, it can be daunting to learn. That said any good trader will tell you that it would not be wise for any forex trader beginner or otherwise to completely neglect this method to analyze forex market currency pairs and that to truly excel you really must understand both fundamental and technical analysis techniques. Hopefully this article may change your perspective on the techniques and how they are used.

The most important indicators in fundamental analysis are: the country's interest rate, employment figures - which are usually publicly released every quarter but this may vary by country, trade balances; budgets; which are both normally released at the end of every fiscal year, and GDP (gross domestic product) figures. As all currencies of the world are controlled by the central banks of their respective nations, fundamental analysis aims to measure the supply and demand of a currency using the indicators I mentioned earlier. Also calendars of various economic events that can affect a nations currency prices are available all over the internet for discerning scrutiny; this is a good place to start for a fundamentalist.

Having used these indicators and determined interest rates, a trader may open a position(s) where they will sell the currency of a country in which its central bank has lowered the interest rates or whose interest rates are declining; and then buy a currency of a country in which the interest rates are high or are climbing. Interest rate changes last for as long as they are in effect hence the question of time and intervals as in technical analysis is unheard of by fundamentalists. Big investors take full advantage of this and go a step further and buy a country's depreciating economy's currency at a low price, and then fund that nation's boom by investing heavily in industry knowing labor and costs are significantly low, then to top it all up as if they were masters of a flawless symphony, sell the currency back when the economy picks up (boom-to-bubble) at high prices.

In conclusion if you understand the underlying reasons of why a nation's currency trend is moving in a particular direction based on information you derive from comparing money supply (i.e. inflation rates) with previous baseline periods, interest rates of major global economies, and analyzing balance of payments of the nation whose currency you wish to trade in, you will be able to tell when to enter, participate and exit from a bubble early before it destructs. I hope this article has bettered your understanding of fundamental analysis and that you found it informative and useful. - 23196

Apartments Good Investments?

By Jeff Royle

Renting out houses as investments make pretty good financial sense over the long term (house prices tend to double in price every 8 to 10 years) but what about Apartments?

Firstly you have to ask yourself, what am I investing for? Is it long term capital growth or short term income from rent? Generally speaking older people invest for short term income rather than long term growth, fotr obvious reasons!

Apartments usually aren't excellent capital growth investments as historically, property prices have in fact reflected the cost of land and as an Apartment owner; this land price is not reflected in the cost of the unit itself. Developers are using all sorts of tricks to sell apartments currently as well as 'rent guarantees'. It is also important to think about what happens after the rent assurance runs out and the figures don't add up. Also will the person offering the guarantee still be in business to honour it? Most Real Estate agents know that these guarantees are a marketing ploy and tend to reflect the weakness in the Apartment market as a whole. (why propose something when you do not need to?)

In addition, think about the mortgage financing for Apartments, especially with most Banks not going over 60 or 65%. Whilst this may be OK for you, think about your potential buyer a few years down the line.

Aside from not owning the land itself, another factor is the possibility for oversupply. Developers can effortlessly erect a block of new Apartments quickly; therefore diluting the potential market. The old rule of supply and demand quickly kicks in, and as an individual you have very little or no control over it.

The fact above together with steep Body Corp fee's and repair issues means that Apartment buyers will need to cautiously think before making a purchase. As for rental return, around 7% would warrant a house purchase but near 10% is required for Apartments - 23196
